The Beverly Hillbillies -- “Trick or Treat” (season 1 episode 6) (originally aired 31 October 1962)
Created by Paul Henning
Episode Written by Paul Henning
Episode Directed by Richard Whorf
Executive Producers Al Simon and Martin Ransohoff
Starring Buddy Ebsen, Irene Ryan, Donna Douglas, Max Baer Jr., Raymond Bailey, Nancy Kulp, Bea Benaderet, Harriet E. MacGibbon

The family sitcom THE BEVERLY HILLBILLIES (1962-1971) centers around the endearing Clampett family and how they have been uplifted by circumstance from their countryside home and made to move to Beverly Hills, California, an environment far different from what they find familiar. The minimal, humble lifestyle the “Hillbillies” are used to provides an interesting contrast with the exuberant, superficial ones of many of their new neighbours around them. A sort of cultural clash, then, contributes to the humour of the show.

In its original run, the series lasted nine seasons, totaling 274 25-minute episodes. In terms of Nielsen ratings it was very successful, remaining at the top of the rankings for many seasons, particularly the first two during which it was ranked number one. It was nominated for seven Emmys during its run, and set the precedent for future rural and culture-conflict shows after it.

Production History
The Beverly Hillbillies was made in Bel Air and Hollywood by the production companies Filmways Television (Petticoat Junction, The Addams Family, etc) and briefly McCadden Productions. CBS Television Distribution was its distributor. It was originally formatted in black-and-whtie, until 1965 when it moved to coour.

In “Trick or Treat,” Granny becomes frustrated by how the Clampetts’ neighbours never call or visit. To amend this, they decide to make an effort and actively go out themselves to their doors instead. Unbeknownst to them, however, they choose the night of Halloween to do so, but fortunately enough they are already dressed in their usual “hillbilly” garb, interpreted by their neighbours as festive and holiday-appropriate.

And the scene at the beginning where Jedd sees Ely in the gown is very touching. The part where he is suddenly speachless is so sweet. Beddy Ebson was a true master of every craft. Its the kind of Father Daughter moment you dont see anymore. THere was no generation gap in the Clampett family. Except maybe for Granny's belief that the civil war was only twenty years earlier.

Subject: Beverly Hillbillies Rock!
The Beverly Hillbillies had the most perfect casting of any television show that I can remember (OK... I Love Lucy had perfect casting).
Every character in the show was right on. And the show was funny! Funny without sexual innuendo like so many of today's shows that are all trying to be "edgy" and "hip". The show has become part of my life... when I heat up a can of soup in a 2-quart pyrex bowl, my family refers to it as my "Jethro bowl" and we often "whomp up a mess of vittles" when we want to cook dinner. Funny '60s sitcom humor!

of all the stupid sitcoms the Beverly Hillbillies was the only one that was actually funny. It didn't need the laugh track. Jed Clampet was the reason it was so good as he tied it all together.

Incredible how things have changed but Granny got it right when she said that there was "nothin in Beverly Hills but HillBullies".

Flat & Scruggs were always a great addition to show.

Subject: Fun!!
Another stupid yet brilliant episode of "The Beverly Hillbillies". I'm glad somebody uploaded this, since it's great that everybody can see it now for free. It may be silly, But it's better than "MASH"!
